This lesson's phrase will help you take matters into your own hands! In this lesson we’ll take a look at the word “please,” which will be very important when you need to ask for something.
In Nynorsk, there are lots of different ways to say “please.” The most common way is to use the phrase
...er du snill? at the end of a sentence.
Let’s break it down:
(slow) ...er du snill?
Once more:
...er du snill?
Let’s take a closer look at Er du snill?
The first word, er, means “are.”
(slow) Er.
Er.
The second word du means “you.”
(slow) Du.
Du.
The final word, snill, means “nice.”
(slow) Snill.
Snill.
Let’s hear the expression again:
...er du snill?
(slow) ...er du snill?
This phrase literally asks “are you nice?” and is simply added to the end of your sentence in order to express “please.”
Another way of saying “please” is to use the word
Venlegst... at the beginning of a sentence.

This word literally means “friendliest,” and can be used at the beginning of a sentence to mean “please.”

If you want to ask for something specifically, then in Nynorsk you say what you want, followed by

Takk, as we learned on the previous lesson, means “thanks.”
You can use the phrase denne, takk for “this, please” and den, takk for “that, please.”
Denne means “this” and den means “that.”
