Hei, jeg heter Nora. Hi everybody! I’m Nora.
Welcome to NorwegianClass101.com’s “Norsk på tre minutter”. The fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn Norwegian.
In the last lesson we learned how to count kroner. Did you practice at home?
In this lesson, we're going to learn useful tips to talk about your schedule - for example, if a friend asks you "What are you doing this weekend?"
Let’s start!
To ask someone what they're doing next weekend, say:
Hva skal du til helgen?
[slowly] Hva skal du til helgen?
Let’s break it down.
Hva is "what".
skal is "going to do".
du means “you.”
And til helgen is "this weekend"
It’s a fairly easy sentence to remember and means “What are you doing this weekend?”
What if you don't want to know about this weekend?
Asking about a different time period is as easy as replacing til helgen.
Tomorrow is i morgen. So you can also say Hva skal du i morgen? “What are you doing tomorrow?” Or, you could also put in a weekday, like mandag, "Monday" or søndag, which is "Sunday". Watch out here though, the preposition would change to på, making the sentence-
Hva skal du på mandag?
Hva skal du på søndag?
So now, if someone asks *you* Hva skal du i morgen?, or "What are you doing tomorrow?", how can you answer?
Here's an example- Jeg skal jobbe. "I'm going to work." Jeg skal means "I'm going to", Jobbe means “to work”. Feel free to replace this with any other activity!
Now it’s time for Nora’s Insights.
In some situations, the question Hva skal du? can also mean more generally "What are going to do?” or “what are you planning?” It’s common to ask this when you are wondering what someone is about to do or where they are going.
In this lesson we learned how to talk about your schedule. Next time we are going to learn how to use the verb å være "to be". We'll also talk about how to tell people your nationality.
I'll be waiting for you in the next norsk på tre minutter lesson.
Sees!
