Maryssa: Idioms For When You're Annoyed
Maryssa: Hi everyone, and welcome back to NorwegianClass101.com. I'm Maryssa.
Patrick: And I'm Patrick!
Maryssa: This is Must-Know Norwegian Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 2. In this lesson you'll learn idioms for when you're annoyed.
Maryssa: When somebody makes a mistake or does something stupid, here are some words that might come in handy.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Maryssa: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Patrick: på bærtur
Patrick: hull i hodet
Patrick: tråkke i salaten
Patrick: på trynet
Maryssa: Patrick, what's our first expression?
Patrick: på bærtur
Maryssa: literally meaning "gone berry-picking." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "way off."
Patrick: [SLOW] på bærtur [NORMAL] på bærtur
Maryssa: Listeners, please repeat.
Patrick: på bærtur
[pause - 5 sec.]
Maryssa: Use this slang expression when someone is way off and has no idea what they're doing.
Picking berries is a popular activity in Norway, but you have to go far into the forest or into the mountains to do it, way off the beaten track, one could say. This is where the idea of being "way off" comes from.
Maryssa: Now let's hear an example sentence.
Patrick: [NORMAL] Du er helt på bærtur! [SLOW] Du er helt på bærtur!
Maryssa: "You have no idea what you're doing!"
Patrick: [NORMAL] Du er helt på bærtur!
Maryssa: Okay, what's the next expression?
Patrick: hull i hodet
Maryssa: literally meaning "hole in the head." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "that's ridiculous."
Patrick: [SLOW] hull i hodet [NORMAL] hull i hodet
Maryssa: Listeners, please repeat.
Patrick: hull i hodet
[pause - 5 sec.]
Maryssa: Use this slang expression when someone tells you something that you find to be ridiculous. This expression comes from the idea that to say or do something so stupid, one would have to have a big hole in their head.
Maryssa: Now let's hear an example sentence.
Patrick: [NORMAL] Det er hull i hodet! [SLOW] Det er hull i hodet!
Maryssa: "That is ridiculous!"
Patrick: [NORMAL] Det er hull i hodet!
Maryssa: Okay, what's our next expression?
Patrick: tråkke i salaten

Patrick: [SLOW] tråkke i salaten [NORMAL] tråkke i salaten
Maryssa: Listeners, please repeat.
Patrick: tråkke i salaten
[pause - 5 sec.]
Maryssa: Use this slang expression when you want to let someone know that they messed up.
