Hallo! My name is Patrick, and I'll be your language teacher and cultural guide throughout this introductory course.
Wherever your destination may be, manners are a must! Norway is no different. So in our very first lesson, we'll be teaching you simple expressions that are bound to come in handy throughout your trip to Western Norway. I can’t stress this enough - a little a bit of language can go a long way!

In Nynorsk, the most common and simple way of saying “Thank you” is
Takk.
Let’s break it down:
(slow) Takk.
Once more:
Takk.
Takk literally means “thanks.” No matter the situation, you only need to say this one simple word - takk.
Another common way of saying “Thank you” is to use the phrase
Takk skal du ha.

Takk skal du ha
This phrase literally means “thanks shall you have.” Despite sounding a bit old-fashioned to English speaker's ears, this is a very common and polite way of saying “thank you” in Nynorsk: Takk skal du ha.
Sometimes, you might want to express your gratitude in a more appreciable manner. In those cases, you can use the expression
Mange takk.
Let’s break that down:

The word mange means “many.”

So, mange takk literally means “many thanks,” and would be used to say “thanks a lot.”
