Brandon: And welcome to Culture Class: Essential Norwegian Vocabulary, Lesson 12! In this lesson you'll learn five essential words related to geography and nature. These are five animals commonly found in Norway. Hand picked. You can find a complete list of vocabulary at NorwegianClass101.com

Brandon: In Norway, the moose is called the king of the woods. They are very common in Norway and often hunted to keep the population from getting too big.

Brandon: The European adder is one of three types of snakes in Norway and the only one that is poisonous. Since it’s cold in the winter months, the European adder hibernates, often with others.

Brandon: The Eurasian lynx is the only wild feline in Norway, and it almost became extinct in the 1930s. Today there are around 500 of them in Norway.

Brandon: The Eurasian lynx can smell a roe deer six hundred meters away.

Brandon: You can find foxes nearly everywhere in Norway. Foxes have very good adaptability, therefore, you can find them close to cities, in the countryside, or in the woods.

Brandon: “Mikkel Fox” is a famous children’s song.

Brandon: There are a lot of roe deer in Norway, mostly in the southern area, but you can also find them in northern parts. A lot of Norwegians get frustrated about roe deer, since they often eat from trees, bushes, and flowers.
