Norwegian Survival Phrases. Lesson 8. |
I Don´t Understand in Norwegian. |
In this lesson , we shall see a very useful phrase meaning, "I don't understand." It is of course very useful because many times you won't immediately understand what people are saying. |
In Norwegian, "I don't understand" is Jeg forstår ikke. Jeg forstår ikke. Let´s break it down by syllable: Jeg forstår ikke. Now, let´s hear it once again: jeg forstår ikke. The first word Jeg means, "I." Jeg, and jeg. Forstår, which in Norwegian is "to understand" in the present tense, follows this. Forstår, and forstår. Ikke is Norwegian for "not." Ikke, ikke. To recap, we have Jeg forstår ikke. Literally, this means, "I understand not." |
Now let's look at another phrase, Jeg vet ikke, which means, "I don't know." Let´s say it slowly now: jeg vet ikke, and jeg vet ikke. The word vet means, "to know" in the present tense. And at last, Ikke. Ikke. |
Another way to express that you don't understand is by telling someone "I don't speak Norwegian." This phrase in Norwegian is Jeg snakker ikke norsk. Let´s break it down by syllable: jeg snakker ikke norsk. Now, let´s hear it once again: jeg snakker ikke norsk. The first word Jeg means, "I." This is followed by snakker, which in English is "to speak" in the present tense. Snakker. Snakker. And snakker. This is followed by ikke, which means, "not." ikke, ikke. The last word is Norsk. Norsk. Norsk. It means, "Norwegian." Again, the whole sentence: Jeg snakker ikke norsk. Jeg snakker ikke norsk. Jeg snakker ikke norsk. |
Okay, the closeout todays lesson, would like you to practice what you´ve just learned. I´ll provide you with the equivalent of the phrase and you´re responsible for shouting it aloud. You have a few seconds before I give you the answer. Så lykke til, which means good luck in Norwegian. |
