| This is a good question. It can be quite tricky for beginners to know the difference between her and hit, as they both translate to “here” in English. Let’s go over the differences. |
| Literally, her means “here” and hit means “to here.” So, the distinction is made between being at a place, her and moving towards a place, hit. |
| Let’s do some examples so you can learn how to use her and hit correctly. |
| Let’s use the sentence, Her er boka meaning “Here is the book.” In this sentence, the book is already at a place that’s close to you, so we use the word her. |
| In the sentence Kan du komme hit? Meaning “Can you come here?” The person is not “here” yet, but will come, literally, “to here.” So, in this case, you’ll use hit. |
| You’ll also see this difference with two similar words, der and dit, which both mean “there.” Using a similar pattern, let’s do two examples. |
| Der er skolen, “There is the school,” means the school is located at a certain place, so we use der. In the sentence, Gå dit, “Go over there,” that person is moving to “there,” so we use dit. |
